1961 - 1980 1961: Tom Pinard became the publisher of the "Mountaineer", the first weekly newspaper, beginning a career that has lasted over thirty years. 1966: The Timberline Lions Club demolished the old Wrightwood Lodge building, and built a new Community Center and later donated the $60,000 building to San Bernardino County for the use of Wrightwood residents. 1974: Helga Walner opened the Four Seasons Art Gallery beginning a tradition of art appreciation that has continued to the present. 1978: The new fire station on Elm Street, under the leadership of Chief Robert Hedden (1968-1988), was dedicated to the community. 1979: The market (Holiday Foods) was moved from the Tradin' Post building on Park Drive, where it was located for fifty-three years, to a new building on Highway 2 (Jensen's). The post office moved into a new location on Highway 2. |
