Drinking Water Have you ever wanted to drink water directly from a mountain stream? Most of us would say yes, especially during a long hot hike! But that fresh, clean-looking and clean-smelling water may not be safe. Giardia and Cryptosporidium are microscopic parasites that can invade open water sources, then enter your body if you take a drink. The illnesses caused by these parasites are usually not life-threatening to those with healthy immune systems, but they can cause a lot of discomfort. Diarrhea, headaches, stomach cramps and nausea are some of the symptoms. |
